You can get job offers on LinkedIn by doing this! 

LinkedIn is more than just a job posting and networking site. What a lot of people do not realize is that there are people on the platform that are looking to hire beyond the job application approach. Hiring managers and talent acquisition specialists are looking for people with certain qualities (which may vary from one company to another), and here’s where you come in. 

Think about the W’s

1. Who 

Who are you? As a person and a professional. Your strengths and weaknesses, your likes and dislikes, your hobbies and passions? Write about them (sometimes) most people on LinkedIn are there to learn from other professionals about their industries, but they also like to learn about traits, goals, and career paths. You could be that person who helps someone launch their career. 

2. Where

Where are you from? How does that add to who you are as a person? Where have you worked before or where are you in your life career-wise right now? Where are you looking to go (your goals)? 

3. What

What do you like to write about? What knowledge do you have that someone could benefit from? What type of communities are you a part of? What types of books do you read (if any)? 

4. Why

Why should someone follow you? Why should someone hire you? Why should they consider interviewing you?

Think about the W’s, before you start writing on LinkedIn. 

Do’s 

  1. Do connect with at least 50 professionals in one week. 
  2. Do send a personalized invite (how? see the next point)
  3. Do read their posts and about them before connecting to establish common ground.
  4. Do read about their company and their role. 
  5. Be a human and connect like you would with a stranger you bumped into, on the street. 

Don’ts 

  1. Do not ask people for an interview right out the gate.
  2. Do not sell anything for the first weeks (unless they're specifically looking for it)
  3. Do not ask for favors.
  4. Do not spam anyone’s Inbox.
  5. Do not send anything unprofessional or inappropriate content. 
  6. Do not copy anyone’s content and call it yours. 

Once you’re through with this list, start jotting down a list of things you have learned in the past 5 years, could be the basics of any field, start there. Share what you’re learning every day, engage in other creators’ posts, and direct message them (how did that specific post resonate with you? or what did you learn from it). 

LinkedIn literally asks you to do just that (refer to image) 

Once you’ve started posting consistently, either ask your audience what they’d like to see more of or decide what you want to be known for and start a newsletter. 

Remember, you have to be consistent and kind. (Do not fake it, be authentic, because people can and will see right through you)
